Psychodynamic Psychotherapist for Children and Adolescents in Ealing and Harrow
Miss Heenal Oza
I am an experienced Psychodynamic Psychotherapist specialised in working with children and adolescents aged from 4-21 years.
You can find more information on my qualification and experiences on the About Me page
I use various modalities in my work, for example, psychotherapy, play therapy, and CBT, covering areas such as:
- Loss and bereavement
- ADHD — Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
- ASC — Autistic Spectrum Condition
- Self-harming and suicidal ideations
- Disordered eating
- Abuse and Trauma
- School issues — for example refusing to go to school
- Selective mutism
- Understanding specific learning difficulties
Children react to emotions differently to adults; the key difference is that children act out, dramatise through behaviour, or even exhibit physical symptoms as a way to communicate their distress. For example this may be by:
- Being withdrawn
- Refusing to eat
- Over eating
- Behavioural issues
- Being withdrawn
- Sleep issues including nightmares, night terrors
- Mood changes
- A general decline in academic performance
- Bed wetting
- Experimenting with illegal substances
It is a worrying and scary feeling to know your child is going through such difficulties. It can also be extremely daunting for parents and guardians who may not know who to turn to for support and how to address the issues going forward.
My Services page explains how we can plan and organise helpful therapies for your family, child or the young person who needs our support.
Counselling and Psychotherapy for children and young people
I provide a bespoke service for each child by assessing and reviewing individual needs. I take into account their level of cognitive processing and personal background (genetic and environmental factors), and only then decide on what modality would best suit the individual.
It is important for me to work with the child on a one-to-one basis, as well as together with their parents/guardians so that we collectively take this journey; addressing the child’s progress, any potential risks and milestones as necessary.
Over the years I have successfully helped many families to deal with their children’s concerns and have helped find a path forward by working in a collaborative way.
Please look at my About me page for more details on my educational background and experience.
